Abstract: This publication presents the first Russian translation of the first chapter of the treatise De vita longa (“On the Long Life”) by Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, called Paracelsus (1493–1541), based on the Latin text of Johannes Oporinus as edited by Johannes Huser (vol. 6 of the collected works, Basel, 1590). The translation is accompanied by an introductory essay tracing the complex editorial history of the treatise and its manuscript and printed versions, as well as by an extensive historico-philosophical commentary elucidating the key concepts of Paracelsus’ natural philosophy and medicine.
