“The Defeat of Philosophy” and the Sociocultural Logic of Modernity

Abstract: The article is devoted to a critical analysis of the concept of the “defeat of philosophy” proposed by A.P. Ogurtsov. Philosophy is viewed not as an autonomous and unchanging form of theoretical activity, but as an expression of sociocultural and worldview strategies. Based on the ideal‑typical model of modernity, the author reinterprets the signs of the crisis of philosophy identified by Ogurtsov: the strengthening of religious worldview, scholars’ turn to theistic interpretations, the disintegration of the traditional conceptual apparatus, and the weakening of polemics between philosophical trends. These processes are interpreted as manifestations of a crisis in the pro‑modernist strategy, which is based on the principles of an “open” universe, human activity, a post‑ideological society, and cultural pluralism. Special attention is paid to the confrontation between pro‑modernist and counter‑modernist tendencies, postmodernist criticism of universals, and the transition from the struggle for absolute truth to the intercultural coexistence of philosophical positions. It is concluded that the issue should not be framed as a defeat for philosophy as such, but rather as a change in its strategic content in the context of the realization crisis of modernity and the transformation of the sociocultural architecture.KEYWORDS: the defeat of philosophy; A.P.
