Abstract: The article discusses the case of V.V. Bibikhin, presented by the story of S.S. Neretina. Using her palimpsest method, the semantic layers that open under the everyday sound of the narrative are cleaned out in layers. The meaning of the mood of horror in the face of death, the meaning of refusal of treatment, the meaning of the desire to write a “Statement of Departure,” the meaning of thought as “point zero” (S.S. Neretina), the meaning of two-minded existening, acting out of oneself, the meaning of important and unimportant in the face of death, the meaning of the absolute value of the energy of rest in philosophy. The purpose of the discussion in Bibikhin’s incident” is not a portrait of a great philosopher, not getting used to (not feeling) in his unique experience. We, in the language of Bibikhin, peer into it as a message, “now addressed to us and containing in itself the secret in which we now urgently need participation for our salvation.” This news brings us an answer to the question of I. Kant, forgotten by modern philosophy: “What can I hope for?”
