Friedrich Hölderlin’s Germanien: The Poem’s Answer to Itself — A Poetic Topology of Unarmed Grace

Abstract: The article advances a new reading of Friedrich Hölderlin’s hymn “Germanien”, interpreting it as a seven-stanza poetic revelation shaped by a topology of gift and “unarmed grace”. Its aim is to hear the poem beyond the habitual hermeneutic patterns and ideological appropriations, restoring to it the primordial event of speech and receiving it as poetry’s own response to the divine source from which it arises. The method is grounded in a slow philosophical-philological reading that joins the analysis of rhythmic and syntactic shifts, liturgical imagery, and the semantics of sacred figures with a phenomenology of speech itself. Through comparisons with Adam Mickiewicz, Alexander Pushkin, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Charles Baudelaire, Homer, Cyprian Norwid, Paul Celan, Dante Alighieri, Pindar, and others, the article brings to light a note of poetic prophecy that gathers together Greek myth, Old Testament vision, apophatic theology, and the mysticism of language.
