Abstract: The article provides an analysis of the history of French personalism, a philosophical movement of the 20th century, based on the texts of speeches delivered by its key theorists at a colloquium organized in January 1985 by the Association of Friends of Emmanuel Mounier, the founder and leading theorist of the movement. The colloquium was dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of the first issue of Esprit (October 1932), the theoretical review of French personalism. During the sessions, 24 speakers from France, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Lebanon and other countries presented their reports; among them were those who had contributed to Esprit since its early issues. The proceedings of the colloquium were published in 1985 under the title “Le personnalisme d’Emmanuel Mounier hier et demain. Pour un cinquantenaire” (Emmanuel Mounier’s Personalism Yesterday and Tomorrow. On the Fiftieth Anniversary).
