Abstract: The following article, based on worldwide filmography (the films, Son of Saul, With a Little Patience, by László Nemes; The Zone of Interest, by Jonathan Glazer; The Act of Killing, by Joshua Oppenheimer; Repentance, by Tengiz Abuladze; and The Holocaust, by Marvin Chomsky) analyzes filmography’s representation of cultural trauma, and the extent to which such representation is possible or impossible, from the perspective of cultural-sociology, psychoanalysis, neurophysiology, and language. The author questions whether trauma can be represented and reflected upon through film. Why is this process so challenging? Can an event such as the Holocaust, which resists representation, be effectively portrayed?
