“Sapere aude! – courage to use one’s own mind”: prolegomena to reflection

Abstract: The article is a response to the memorial book of A.P. Ogurtsov “Alienation, reflection and practice”, which was defended as a candidate’s dissertation in 1967. Particular attention is paid to the second chapter of the book — “Metamorphoses of Reflection”, in which A.P. Ogurtsov explores the transformation of the understanding of reflection in Western European philosophy, highlighting the approach of I. Kant as a key figure in this process. Based on the methodological message of A.P. Ogurtsov and turning to one of the most famous works of I. Kant “On Eternal Peace”, which is gaining new relevance in the modern state of the fatherland and the global world, the author addresses the problem of good and evil, concentrated in wars, their modern nature, the paradoxical role of a new type of weapons. Attention is paid to the foundations of the technocratic thinking of the elites who rule the world, as well as the possibility of humanistic influence on the subject — the bearer of technical rationality in the system of engineering education.
