Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the figure of the monarch presented in Dante’s “De Monarchia”. The study of Dante’s political project will provide us with an opportunity to see the shifts in intellectual environment of the late Middle Ages through the evolution or perhaps return from the theocratic model to the earlier pre-Christian concept of the ruler. The study of Dante’s political lexicon will demonstrate the revival of the original meanings starting to challenge and shift the consensus of the political philosophy at the time.
